I am proud to announce the launch of Propel’s Healthcare Manufacturer Community (HMC) in an effort to help build ventilators and other medical devices as quickly as possible.
HMC is a free community designed to help engineers, suppliers, distributors, manufacturers, and other professionals make faster production of medical devices a reality. It consists of three key components:
- Detailed product design files released by medical equipment manufacturers structured in an easy to read, user-friendly format;
- Current supplier and component information, including distributor contact info and product availability; and
- Collaboration tools to help brainstorm and quickly iterate on designs.
HMC launches with full design documents, product manuals, and software code for the Puritan Bennett (PB) 560 portable ventilator that Medtronic recently made available to the public. The information has been uploaded to Propel’s Product Success Platform, with an easy to navigate user interface that clearly shows the bill of materials, approved manufacturers list, 3D CAD data, firmware source code, and other information released by Medtronic. Silicon Expert, an Arrow Electronics subsidiary, has generously added detailed supplier and component information, including current manufacturer part numbers, substitutes, supplier contact information, and real-time component availability.
Here’s an image of the PB560 Bill of Materials as represented in the HMC:
Community members will have immediate access to all of this information. They will also have access to collaboration tools so they can share ideas with other members, find alternate components, connect with suppliers and create their own ventilator designs. Our goal is to drastically reduce the time required for manufacturers to bring ventilators to market - time our healthcare system does not have - by removing lags caused by extracting usable information or tracking down components.
HMC membership is available to anybody who works for a manufacturer, component supplier or research facility. Students attending accredited educational institutions are also eligible to join. Please register here to request access.
With feedback from our members and the public, HMC will continue to evolve. Please email us to suggest additional products, suppliers or other improvements that would benefit the community.
I’d like to thank Medtronic for making the design available, Silicon Expert for their sourcing support, and Salesforce for providing the CARE platform that enabled Propel to quickly launch and make this a reality in days instead of months.
Last, I am deeply humbled by the heroic efforts of healthcare providers and professionals across the world who are on the front lines of the COVID-19 battle. Their tireless efforts to save lives have earned well-earned praise and appreciation from all of us.
